She had gotten him a puppy.
Franklin was the jealous type. There was no secret about that. In the past, it hadn’t been a problem because all of his relationships almost had to be casual. He’d see the girl for half a year at most, then again for awards season, and that would be that. So he’d made a point not to get attached to anyone because relationships were just about having fun when he was a teen. But this thing, with Arcadia? It was real. For the first time, he had something real. And no way in hell did he want to let it go, but something felt off. It wasn’t in his feelings because those were what he was sure of.
Frankie made it a point not to hate people, but David? For him, Frankie would make an exception. That man… He just didn’t understand. He didn’t understand how he could be such a… Such a dick. So when he’d caught wind that Arcadia had bought Dave a puppy, the news was just… baffling. He couldn’t understand. And it just kicked up the feelings that something was off. Like… A puppy? For David. Didn’t David eat puppies?
Franklin didn’t often indulge in mind-altering substances when his mind was preoccupied, but something had driven him to this Californian bar he’d heard so many good things about. He wasn’t drunk, but he’d had enough to where he was beginning to feel the alcohol affecting his brain, and he wasn’t stopping. He didn’t understand. No matter how tight of a grip he tried to have on his girlfriend, he always felt as though it wasn’t tight enough. But the tighter he gripped, the more he felt like he was smothering her and he needed to step off. And when he stepped off? She bought her ex-boyfriend a puppy. Seriously. An ax? Frank would be able to understand that. But. It. Was. A. Puppy.
Franklin sighed and downed another shot, gesturing to the bartender to hit him up again. None of this made any sense. He had no idea how to keep a girlfriend for more than six months. Pampering. Compliments. Love. Was that all it took? His parents made it seem so effortless. Their problems were solved with a hug and a kiss, at least that’s what it looked like from an outsider’s perspective. He didn’t know how to handle his own problems. It seemed as though no amount of cuddles in the world could work all the time. It was just… Frustrating. Entirely.
Confused and pouty, Franklin resolved to keep drinking alcohol, simply because, for once, he didn’t have the answer.
